Documenting Vision Prescription

Updated on

The precise lens power required by a patient is documented as a final prescription. This tutorial will demonstrate how to document a vision prescription as part of a patient exam in Vision(X).

Vision Prescriptions Menu

Begin the exam, then select the Vision Prescriptions category to open the documentation fields. Select a Use Type from the drop-down menu, then enter refraction values as appropriate. Values can be added manually, or by using the slider bar at the bottom of the screen.

Lens Details and Add-Ons

Providers have the option to include suggested lens products as part of the documented prescription's details. If selected, these values will appear as part of a printed prescription and will be saved to the prescription in this patient's records. These can be used by an optician to offer recommended products, though they are not a requirement when creating the prescription or selling a prescription eyeglasses product:

Lens add-ons can be selected as either "recommended" (optional) or "prescribed" (required) to fulfill a finalized prescription order. Click "+Add new" to open the Lens Add-On menu, then make selections in the required fields marked by asterisk, then click "Add" to save:

The add-on will now appear saved to the prescription. Each add-on can be edited or removed, and additional add-ons can be accessed by clicking "+Add new":

Notes, Lab Notes, & Expiration

Additional notes can be added to the prescription. "Notes" will appear on the prescription in your Vision(X) site, while "Lab Notes" will be visible on the prescription when printed/transmitted to a tab for fulfillment. An expiration date for the prescription is required, and can be added using the field provided:

Sign Prescription

When the applicable fields have been completed, the "View & Sign Rx Draft(s)" button at the top of this exam section will become available to click:

The final prescription draft will appear in a PDF preview. Review the prescription and sign when ready:

The prescription is now finalized and can be downloaded or printed:

When ready, double-scroll the bottom of the page to proceed to the next portion of the exam:
